How offices lose their data

  • A drive fails

Every hard drive fails eventually. With a single disk or an old external drive, that is the end of the data on it.

  • Ransomware encrypts the shared folder

If the backup sits on the same network with no protected versions, it gets encrypted along with everything else.

  • Someone deletes the wrong folder

Without version history, a mistake noticed a week later cannot be undone.

RAID is not a backup. RAID keeps a NAS running when one drive dies. It does nothing about deletion, ransomware, theft or fire. For that you need separate copies, one of them somewhere else. RAID levels explained.

What we set up

  • Storage

    NAS supply and installation

A right-sized Synology, QNAP or Asustor unit with the drives, RAID level and network setup your office needs.

  • Backup

    Automatic backup setup

Scheduled backups of PCs, servers and shared folders to the NAS, with an off-site copy, so nobody has to remember to do it.

  • Versions

    Ransomware protection for NAS

Point-in-time snapshots and protected copies that let you roll a folder back to how it was before an attack or a mistake.

  • Move

    Data migration

We move your files, users and permissions from old servers, external drives or an ageing NAS.

  • Care

    AMC and support

Health checks, firmware updates, drive replacement and a number to call when something looks wrong.

How much storage do you need?

Set your numbers for a rough size. It is an estimate, and we confirm it during the assessment.

Allows 30% extra for versions and snapshots, and about 10% lost to formatting. This sizes the main NAS only. The off-site copy needs its own space.

How it works

  1. Assessment

A short call or visit to see what data you have, where it lives and how it is backed up today.

  2. Design and quote

We recommend a NAS, drives and a backup plan, and send a written quote.

  3. Installation and migration

We install the NAS, move your data and set up the backup schedule.

  4. Test restore and support

We restore a file with you to prove it works, then keep the system healthy under AMC.

Guides

  • Guide

    RAID levels explained

RAID combines several drives so that the NAS keeps working when one of them fails. Each level trades usable space against protection.

  • Guide

    The 3-2-1 backup rule

The 3-2-1 rule is the simplest test of whether a backup plan is good enough: three copies of your data, on two different devices, with one copy off-site.

    How to choose a NAS

Choosing a NAS comes down to five decisions. Get the first two right and the rest follow.

  • Guide

    Synology vs QNAP vs Asustor

All three brands make reliable NAS units. They differ in what they put first: Synology the software, QNAP the hardware options, Asustor the value.

    NAS vs cloud backup

A NAS and cloud storage are not rivals. Each covers the other's weak point, and a sound backup plan uses both.

Common questions

Is a NAS with RAID already a backup?

No. RAID keeps the NAS running when a drive fails, but it does not protect against deletion, ransomware, theft or fire. A backup is a separate copy, ideally with one copy off-site.

Which brands do you supply?

Synology, QNAP and Asustor. Every current model is listed on this site with its specifications, and you can ask for a price on any of them.

How much does a NAS cost?

It depends on the model, the number and size of drives, and whether you want installation and AMC. Use the calculator for a rough capacity, then ask for a quote and we will send a written price.

Do you install and configure the NAS?

Yes. We supply the unit with drives fitted, build the storage, create users and shares, set up backup and test a restore with you.

What happens when a drive fails?

The NAS keeps working on the remaining drives and raises an alert. The failed drive is replaced and the NAS rebuilds itself, usually while everyone carries on working.
